IMG_2472Baptism is the beginning of our relationship with God, when we are blessed by God with the waters of forgiveness through Jesus and are given the Holy Spirit. Baptism is available to infants, children and adults and occur most often during worship on Sunday.  Contact Pastor to schedule a baptism and find out requirements for this opportunity.

First Communion Instruction is available to all who are baptized. Most often, the two classes are focused on children, ages 5-10, but the class is easily modified for anyone who participates. Again, please contact Pastor Cheryl for more information.

Sunday School is offered from September to June for ages 4-12 years old.  It happens most Sundays after service and lasts about 25 minutes.  Children have a fun time learning more about the Bible, doing service projects, and enjoy fellowship with other children at church.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a week long summer camp opportunity for Sunday School students, ages 4-12 years old.  Confirmation students, parents, and church members lead a faith-filled, fun learning time for the children in the summer.  The past few years St. Matthew Trinity has offered an evening VBS with a presentation of songs in church the Sunday after the VBS week.

A Christmas Program is led by the children during the Christmas season.  The Sunday School students will present a skit or another kind of program along with Christmas songs within the worship service. In 2015, the confirmation class teamed with the Sunday School and together they lead a program entitled “Christmas Around the World.”

Confirmation is a 2 & 1/2-year intensive faith building program for older youth, ages 12-18 years (typically during the middle school years).  Youth need to regularly attend worship services, write one sermon review per month, participate in confirmation class with Pastor, acolyte (light and extinguish the candles for worship), participate in service projects, and attend confirmation camp at Camp Calumet.  Once youth are confirmed, they become adult, voting members of the church.

Youth Programs

IMG_2463Jr. Youth Group is held from September to June.  Bi-monthly fun, fellowship events are held for the Sunday School children to grow in faith and friendship.

The Intercongregational Youth Program has been set up for youth, ages 10-17, to meet and build friendships with youth from other Lutheran congregations.  St. Matthew Trinity has been the lead in this initiative.

Adult Education

Adult education opportunities are also offered to the church community.  Pastor and 8-12 participants, including the confirmation class, are studying the book, “We Make the Road by Walking” by Brian McLaren.  This opportunity for Bible learning and discussion is in its second year and will conclude this spring. A new Bible study will begin in the fall of 2016, topic to yet be determined. The Learning Circles are currently offered twice a month after Sunday worship service.
