Ways to Serve

IMG_2471 (1)At St. Matthew Trinity, we believe that “Every Member a Minister.”  Everyone serves the church with their special gifts, as well as supporting the community missions.

Music Ministry – Members are encouraged to share their musical talents – voice and instruments to “make a joyful noise to the Lord.”   Choir is open to everyone and practices from September to June.  Special selections are shared during worship services to enhance our worship experience.  The Praise Band consists of gifted musicians who lead contemporary praise songs in worship and sometimes offer a fresh way to sing an old hymn.   Rehearsals are often midweek. New instrumentalists are always welcome!

Acolyte – Youth, between ages 10-18, are trained to light and extinguish the candles in the sanctuary that signify the beginning and end of worship services.  Acolytes also assist with communion by serving the chalice for grape juice.

bibleAssisting Minister – Church members assist during worship by reading the day’s Bible readings, offer prayers on behalf of the worshiping community, and lead the announcement time.  Training is offered for this opportunity and all are encouraged to participate!

Communion Assistants – Members who assist with communion and help Pastor serve those who are unable to walk to the front of the church for communion.  Training is offered for this opportunity and all are encouraged to participate!

Greeters – Individuals, families, or groups, who come to church about 15-20 minutes before the worship service, greet everyone and hand out the worship bulletin.

Ushers – Help any visitors to the church to find a seat or any other needs.  Ushers hand the offering plate down each pew and lead each pew to front of the sanctuary for communion.

Altar Guild – Members trained to set up and clean up all the items needed for communion (wafers, wine, grape juice, etc.). They also oversee the decoration of the sanctuary for special services and coordinate the Christmas and Easter Flower Gardens. The head of the altar guild makes sure that we are well stocked with the necessary elements for communion and our pew communications for newcomers.

IMG_2464Sunday School Teachers – Members who help lead the youth in faith formation.  Materials are provided and support given by the Sunday School Superintendent.

Christmas Bazaar – Members create crafts and a variety of items to be sold to the community.  Funds support various projects in the church.  The bazaar is held in early November, as the community prepares for the Christmas season.

Leadership – The Church Council meets monthly to lead the church, communicate and coordinate activities for the church ministry and calendar, overseeing the ministries of the church and make decisions for the good of the whole.  The Council includes Church President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary, the heads of boards and the Senior Deacon. The Board of Deacons meets monthly to coordinate worship, oversee staffing concerns and support ministry with the people of the church, and to assist the Pastor by serving as an advisory team. Special committees can also be created as needed, such as the DECC support group and the Fundraising Building Committee.
